The area was developed by the British in the 1940s as a hill station and named after William Cameron, a British explorer and geologist.

You can explore the lush green forests on foot or by ATV, hike up Gunung Berembun for scenic mountain views, or go camping at Taman Eko Kem Sungai Pauh. For those who like to be close to nature, the forest in Cameron Highlands offers a great option for adventure seekers. There are several trails that are offered in Cameron Highlands which are catered for trekkers of all levels. The trail starting from the army quarters around the northern peak of Mount Brinchang is one of the most challenging ones here as they are rarely used. To trek this trail you should register your details at the police station as there have been cases where trekkers lost their way during their adventure.

BUKIT LARUT

Bukit Larut, fondly known as Maxwell Hill, is a charming hill resort nestled in the state of Perak. Established in 1884 by British colonists, it holds the title of being the oldest hill resort in Malaysia. The area was initially named after the British Malaya administrator George Maxwell, and later renamed as Bukit Larut in 1979.

This enchanting hill is a treasure trove of biodiversity, boasting a rich variety of highland plant species, mammals, birds, reptiles, and amphibians. It’s also known for receiving the highest rainfall in Malaysia, making it a lush and vibrant ecosystem.

Adding to its allure, Bukit Larut is also the proud host of the annual North Face Malaysia Mountain Trail Festival. This thrilling event includes challenges such as Vertical Kilometer (VK) and distances of 13KM, 25KM, 50KM and 100KM. It’s not just a test of endurance but also a celebration of the spirit of adventure. 

BURMESE POOL

The Burmese pool is a natural wonder that offers an exhilarating experience for adventure seekers. This unique attraction is a rock formation that forms a series of large pools, fed by a stream that descends into a waterfall. The water originates from the Batu Tegoh River, creating a refreshing and serene environment.

Popularly known as Kolam Renang Batu Besar among locals, the Burmese Pool is spacious yet shallow. The pool is nestled at the foothills of Bukit Larut, near Taman Sentosa, and is part of the clear river that runs through this area.

The journey to the pool itself is an adventure. Visitors need to traverse through the beautiful Taiping Lake Gardens and follow signboards pointing towards the Burmese Pool. 

The Burmese Pool is more than just a natural swimming spot. It’s a place where butterfly enthusiasts, trackers, swimmers, and adventurers converge to enjoy the beauty of nature. 

MATANG MANGROVE

Embark on an adventure to the Matang Mangrove Forest Reserve, the largest mangrove reserve in Malaysia, covering an impressive area of about 40,000 hectares. This lush green sanctuary is a testament to nature’s resilience and beauty, primarily managed for timber production with a series of 10-year working plans.

As you journey through the reserve, you’ll be greeted by a verdant expanse of mangrove trees, including the dominant Rhizophora species, as well as other varieties like Lenggadai and Seaward berus. TAIPING LAKE GARDENS

Step into a world where history and nature intertwine, welcome to the Taiping Lake Gardens! Born from the remnants of an old mining site, this garden is a testament to Malaysia’s transformative spirit.

Imagine strolling through a sprawling 64-hectare garden, where every corner reveals a new surprise. Ten shimmering lakes and ponds reflect the sky, creating a mesmerizing tableau of water and light.

The garden is a living canvas painted with diverse flora. The golden rain trees, known locally as Samanea saman or hujan-hujan, line the pathways, their leaves whispering stories of the past.

This isn’t just a garden; it’s a journey through time. The grounds were generously donated by Chung Keng Quee, marking a shift from industry to recreation.
